USDA Proposes Amendments To Appalachian And Southeast Milk Orders  

On May 19, the Department of Agriculture released their final decision on the Southern Marketing Agency's proposal to merge Federal Orders 5 & 7. USDA decided against the merger of the Appalachian and Southeast Orders, but did agree to add three cents per hundredweight to the transportation credits in both orders and to extend the Appalachian order to include 25 additional counties in Virginia. Proposals to regulate producer-handlers were not answered to with in this decision. USDA plans to release their ruling on this proposal during a later time.
