Investing in Tomorrow

Farrah Newberry

Just a quick note to say thank you. Thank you for investing in our youth. Many of you have contributed to the GA Dairy Youth Foundation, your local 4-H and FFA chapters or donated heifers to Georgia's commercial dairy heifer program. Without your donations and service, our dairy programs in Georgia would not be what they are today.

While attending a state commission meeting last week with Dr. Sam Pardue, dean of UGA's College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, a vegetable farmer stated that the dairy industry has done an outstanding job of promoting its industry within the College; which has led to a sharp increase in the number of students majoring in dairy science. In my opinion, this success is a direct result of our 4-H and FFA dairy programs and the commitment from Georgia dairymen to support those programs through the Georgia Milk Producers and the Georgia Dairy Youth Foundation.

As a mom of three, I believe youth programs are an important part of my children's intellectual growth. Sports, 4-H and FFA programs and other similar activities, have directly impacted my daughter Emma. Her involvement with these programs has built character, personality and confidence - something that can not come from a book.

While it is not an easy task fitting these activities into my daily work and home schedules, it is worth every stressful mile logged onto my SUV.

Thank you for your contributions and your part in securing a stronger future for Georgia's dairy industry.
